Our Story
Hi! I’m Josie Mama.
In 2018, we adopted Josie from SOSD Singapore. She was our first rescue, and she gently changed the way I saw the world.
Our family later grew with Jellie Bean and Jennie, but Josie will always be the heart behind Josie Mama Sews. You can follow them on their adventures over at @josietherescued!
She loves muddy adventures, rolling in the grass and living life without hesitation. I found myself constantly washing her accessories, only to see them stain and wear out too quickly.
I wanted to create something that could keep up with her life. Something practical, but still beautiful.
So I began testing fabrics, researching, sewing, unpicking and trying again.
After a year of trial and error, our water-resistant collection was born. These were pieces designed for real life, made to handle everyday splashes, play and mess while still feeling thoughtful and timeless.
Every bandana, collar, leash sleeve and message tag is handmade by me after your order is placed.
Rescuing Josie opened my eyes to the quiet struggles faced by animals in our community.
I began noticing the misunderstandings surrounding Singapore Specials, the labels placed on nervous or fearful dogs, and the pressure placed on animals who simply need more time, patience or personal space.
Through Josie Mama Sews, we began championing the Yellow Dog Movement and creating accessories that help animals communicate their needs before an uncomfortable interaction happens.
The Yellow Dog Project was founded by Canadian dog trainer Tara Palardy to raise awareness that some dogs need additional space. A yellow ribbon or accessory can serve as a visible signal asking others not to approach without permission.
A yellow bandana, message tag or leash sleeve may quietly say: Please give me space.
That small message can help protect boundaries, reduce stress and create safer encounters for dogs and the people caring for them.
Kindness Beyond Every Stitch
Through selected fundraisers, product donations and annual contributions, we support local animal welfare and community initiatives in Singapore.
Your support does more than sustain a small handmade business.
It helps us create educational resources.
It raises awareness.
It supports animals in need.
It helps encourage kinder and more respectful interactions.
Josie may have inspired me to begin sewing, but she also gave this little brand its purpose:
to create with kindness, lend a voice to animals and help them feel seen, heard and respected.
Thank you for walking this journey with us.
With love,
Josie Mama
